Shared accommodation is available to CAP students only. This is a service provided to CAP students to help make accommodation more accessible to students throughout the short delivery period of CAP. A service agreement between Avatar Institute of Learning and Avatar Corporation Limited and Avatar Glen Limited is in place. Avatar Institute of Learning is the conduit between students and the accommodation providers to ensure the safety and wellbeing of CAP students.

Our Accommodation Policy is available.  It explains the key rights and responsibilities of the student when using our accommodation. These rights and responsibilities are extracts from the NZ government’s tenancy website, and have been made relevant for Avatar’s students.

New Zealand Government Tenancy Website: Key rights and responsibilities

Students are welcome to source their own accommodation while enrolled in CAP. Please be advised that access to private rental accommodation is unlikely due to the short delivery period of CAP,  and the accommodation shortage within New Zealand.

Accommodation Arranged By Students – Private rental

Students who wish to live independently can rent an apartment or share a house with others (often called ‘Flatting”).  In a “flat”, you can have your own room or share it with other students. Flats are usually unfurnished. Bathroom and kitchen facilities are shared. Rent is paid per room with all other expenses (food, power, phone, and internet) along with cooking and cleaning shared.

If you choose this type of accommodation, you will need to find your own rental property.

Costs for flats in New Plymouth range from $150-$250 a room per week.

There are other rental options available through TradeMe.
